Les Miserables

Why see Les Miserables?

Do You Hear The People Sing?

Wichita, don your finest red and black and warm up your voices to sing along with Jean Valjean and the revolutionaries in the epic Les Miserables this fall. Victor Hugo's epic novel, published in 1862, was adapted into musical form in the 1980s and has since become one of the longest-running productions in the world. Presented by Music Theatre Wichita, don't miss this exciting staging of the beloved classic!

Including musical theatre standards like 'I Dreamed A Dream', 'One Day More', 'Bring Him Home', among many more, this juggernaught of theatre has it all. From the drama of Jean Valjean's decades-long quest for freedom, the tragedy of Fantine as she does whatever it takes to save her daughter, Marius and Cosette's beautiful love story, to the epic fight at the barricades of Paris, and the comedy of the unscrupulous Thenardiers, Les Mis presents the many facets of the human experience in one breathtaking evening.

What Is The Story?

Jean Valjean is an ex-convict struggling to make his way in the world after being unjustly imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread. An act of kindness from a local priest sets him on a new course as he turns his life around. Flash forward 17 years, and Paris is in disarray, the rich ruling class treating the working class with contempt that none deserve. Tensions reach a tipping point, and multiple stories come to a head in the epic musical.
